Seasonal Start to September
Expect mostly cloudy skies with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in South Florida on Tuesday night. Sea breeze winds will bring a seasonal pattern of inland storms Wednesday afternoon and evening.
A tropical wave in the eastern portion of the Bay of Campeche and another one off the west coast of Africa both have low chances of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 5 days.
The one that deserves the most attention is an area of low pressure near the leeward islands accompanied by a big tropical wave. This system holds a medium (50%) chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm over the next 5 days.
If high pressure in the Atlantic strengthens over the next few days, this area of low pressure would move across the Caribbean Sea and bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Cuba and Jamaica. If high pressure weakens, the storm will track over Hispaniola into the Bahamas and bring plenty of tropical moisture and high winds to South Florida from Friday into Saturday.
