Martina Glagow of Germany wins biathlon World Cup opener

KONTIOLAHTI, Finland (AP) -- Martina Glagow of Germany won the women's World Cup biathlon season opener Thursday, beating Tatiana Moiseeva by 6.7 seconds.

Glagow shot cleanly at 20 targets and finished the 15-kilometer event in 46 minutes, 28.8 seconds for her 11th World Cup individual victory. Moiseeva, a Russian, also shot cleanly.

Simone Denkinger of Germany had two misses and was 1:02.7 behind in third place.

The 28-year-old Glagow, a triple silver medalist at the Turin Olympics, won the World Cup overall title in 2003.

Kati Wilhelm, the defending overall champion from Germany, finished 21st after missing four targets.

The meet ends Sunday.
