Drew Peterson stopped for speeding on way to pick up friend
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Drew Peterson says he was trying to help a 22-year-old female friend when he was pulled over for speeding in a Chicago suburb.
The former Bolingbrook police sergeant suspected in his wife's October disappearance was stopped at 2:30 a.m. Saturday in Naperville. Police let him go with a warning.
Peterson says he was pulled over as he drove to pick up a woman he describes as a friend after she called him for a ride. Peterson's attorney says the woman works at a tanning salon Peterson visits.
Police call Stacy Peterson's disappearance a possible homicide. Peterson has denied any involvement.
Authorities are also investigating the 2004 death of Peterson's ex-wife, Kathleen Savio. Peterson has not been charged in either case.
