Purse snatching motorcyclists on the loose

SUNRISE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for a pair of bandits on bikes who have been stealing women's purses right out of their hands.

Police said surveillance cameras caught a motorcyclist on Aug. 8 riding up along side a woman in a Publix parking lot located at 10155 West Oakland Park Boulevard. The surveillance video then shows the suspect snatching the victim's purse and speeding off with a second motorcyclist.

Officials said the Publix incident is just one of eight in Broward County in the last couple of weeks. Police said all the victims are women between the ages of 34 to 80 years old.

No one has been injured in any of the eight incidents, but police are concerned about the public's safety. "We're very fortunate, as of right now, that nobody was hurt so far, but, obviously, when a motor vehicle gets pulled into the picture, there is that possibility of somebody getting pulled to the ground, hitting their head," said Sunrise Police Lieutenant Brian Gerity. "We just want to try to solve these crimes as fast as we can."

Police said the purse snatchers were covered in black clothing and had the visors on their helmets down, covering their faces.

If you have any information on these purse snatchers, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
