Community concerned after multiple attacks near jog path

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida community is urging police to secure their neighborhood after a group of thugs attacked a man near a jog path.

On Wednesday evening Chaim Fischweicher was out on the jogging path when he was brutally assaulted. "I don't think for a minute that you, when I'm talking to the perpetrators and those like you, care about other people, otherwise you wouldn't do this," he said. "The first thing that he did was start pummelling my head with the gun and then my face and punching me and kicking me. Repeatedly, I kept saying, 'Let me go, I have nothing.'"

Neighbors in the North Miami Beach community are also concerned for their safety. "It seems like it is a big problem, and it seems like this kind of stuff happens nearly every night. We feel so unsafe out there. We don't even go to the canal or to the park anymore," said a woman whose husband was also assaulted on that same path.

According to police a woman was attacked and gang raped in the same area in May. Police made several arrests related to that case. Following that incident, police handed out flyers informing residents of self defense classes being offered.

The family of the victim said they are afraid of leaving their home. "I really can't describe how painful it is. It's scary. I don't want to live in a community where I have to be scared. I have to be a prisoner of my own house," said Priva Fischweicher, the victim's wife.

According to officials, they are aware of the numerous attacks that have happened and are working to increase patrols in the area.

If you have any information on these brutal attacks, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
