Police officers' son among suspected taser bandits
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Fort Lauderdale Police officers are questioning seven young men, including the son of two Lauderhill Police officers, in connection with at least four armed robberies across South Florida.
According to authorities, several of the suspects disguised themselves with bandannas and gold teeth caps, known as grills, before beating, robbing and, in several cases, stunning their victims with taser guns for their cellular phones, cash and wallets.
Officials said the suspects robbed several people in Coral Springs, outside of the Dunkin Donuts located at 8175 Wiles Road, and Lauderhill on Tuesday night. Fort Lauderdale Police officer Paul Brown spotted the group near a 7-Eleven along Broward Boulevard just before 2 a.m. Wednesday and arrested them, collecting latex gloves, a taser gun and stolen objects during the stop.
As for the son of the two officers, this is the 18-year-old's second run-in with law enforcement, having been busted in Fort Lauderdale earlier this year for a similar crime. "In March, he was arrested with several other accomplices for attempting to rob five women," said Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Kathy Collins. "We were able to apprehend them at the time, along with the collection of an AK-47 and a handgun. Unfortunately, that case fell through due to a lack of victim cooperation for whatever reason."
