Fire rips through South Florida home leaving a family homeless

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed a South Florida home and left a family homeless.

The blaze broke out around 2:30 a.m. Friday along Northwest 125th Street and 20th Avenue. Fire Rescue quickly arrived on the scene and battled the intense flames. "The first units arriving found a heavy volume of fire and smoke coming out of the front of the building," said Chief Daniel Gonzalez of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

The homeowner, her daughters and grandson were all inside the home when the fire started. "I was in my living room watching cable here. I smelled smoke, but I had no idea where it was coming from, and then my grandson came over to me crying," said Angellee Zamora. "All of a sudden it all went up in flames. I ran and knocked on the neighbors' doors screaming, 'My house is on fire, my house is on fire.'"

Fire crews rescued the family's dog from the rear of the house, but a bird inside the home was not as fortunate.

The Red Cross is providing aid to the victims. Meanwhile, authorities are still investigating what caused the fire.

No injuries were reported.
