Swim advisory lifted for all South Florida beaches
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Officials have lifted the swimming advisory for all of the 12 beaches tested for high bacteria levels.
Thursday, Health Department officials gave the "all clear" to swimmers after test results showed bacteria levels had dropped at all but Crandon Park Beach. On Friday tests proved the final hold out beach was safe to swim in.
The swimming advisory has already been lifted at the following beaches: Golden Beach, Sunny Isles Beach Pier Park, Oleta Park- Swimming Area, Haulover Beach Park, 93rd Street in Surfside, 74th Street Beach, 53rd Street Beach, 21st Street Beach, South Pointe Park (1st Street Beach), Hobie/Dog Beach and Matheson Hammock.
Officials closed the beaches Wednesday after levels of bacteria were found to be higher than the state found acceptable. The high bacteria is a result of fecal pollution from humans, pets and wildlife and dirty water from storm water run-off.
Bacteria with high concentration levels can make swimmers ill and cause a host of intestinal problems.
