Necropsy results released for stranded beaked whale
ISLAMORADA, Fla. (WSVN) -- We now know why a whale stranded in the Florida Keys had to be euthanized.
Necropsy results show the 14-foot-long beaked whale was suffering from meningitis, infections on several organs and had a heavy parasite infestation to the liver.
A Good Samaritan found the whale beached off Islamorada last Friday and called authorities. It was treated at the Marine Mammal Conservancy in Key Largo with volunteers taking turns comforting the marine mammal around the clock.
