SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Family and friends gathered in support of a South Florida teen facing a deportation dilemma.
Supporters of Camila Hornung held a candlelight vigil at her family's home Tuesday night in Southwest Miami-Dade.
The 19-year-old and her family were taken into custody by immigration officials for illegally being in the country.
Friends of the Florida State University freshman said she was brought here from Peru as a child and deserves the right to stay. "She has people here who love her so much, who would love to see her have an opportunity to have a future and an education here," said Alisa Valero between sobs. Valero is a close friend of Hornung.
"The family, which had outstanding orders of deportation for several years, were arrested as immigration fugitives. They are currently detained at the Broward Transitional Center awaiting deportation to their native Peru," said Babara Gonzalez of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Hornungs are being held in Deerfield Beach awaiting deportation.
