Family makes public plea in search for son's killer

Family makes public plea in search for son's killer

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida family needs the public's help to find the person responsible for killing their loved one.

According to authorities, 27-year-old Jim Bowerman was found brutally murdered last month inside his apartment, on 15th Avenue Northeast 130th Street. "Devastating, it's absolutely devastating, because we were very close," said Joanne Lose, the victim's mother. "If this person knew Jim, they knew what a nice, good person he was, and it's got to be eating them up. I'm hoping it's eating them bad."

Officials said Bowerman's co-workers from the Chili's restaurant grew concerned when he didn't show up for work. Police were called, and the responding officers found the back door of his apartment unit slightly opened. "If, in fact, it is a random killing, and he happened to answer a knock at the door," said Lieutenant Neal Cuevas of North Miami Police. "That's why we have to get these people, so that we can prevent someone else from answering a knock at the door, and winding up a victim of a brutal murder as he did."

Over the past couple of weeks, police said there have been a few leads, but the passage of time has the family desperate, flying from Michigan to Miami, trying to catch the killer. "I want this solved. I definitely want this solved. Without a doubt, it won't end until it's out," said Lose.

According to police, they do not know the motive in this killing but don't believe it was a robbery gone wrong.

The reward for catching the killer stands at $5,000.

If you have any information on this murder, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
