'Be prepared' is the message of annual Governor's Hurricane Conference
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- Emergency managers, rescue workers and government officials are meeting in Fort Lauderdale this week to discuss storm preparedness.
No major storm hit the state in 2006 and 2007, and officials worry Florida residents are now apathetic about getting ready to evacuate and protect themselves and their homes.
It's the first Governor's Hurricane Conference for new National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read.
Hurricane season begins June first and ends November 30th.
