Police substation hit by bullets

Police substation hit by bullets

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police want to know who fired bullets into the Miami-Dade Police Hammocks District Substation early Wednesday morning.

Police say someone shot out three windows of the substation located at Southwest 100 Street and 142nd Avenue at around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Two bullets wound up hitting a counter inside where officers were working. No one was injured.

MDPD Detective Juan Villalba said investigators are looking into this case seriously, as officers' lives were placed at risk. "Anytime you have any type of a firearm being fired or any type of a projectile being discharged people can be seriously injured," he said. "In this case there are no injuries reported. Investigators are working the case."

Police are now interviewing neighbors of the residential community nearby to see if anyone saw anything and checking if there is any useful surveillance video.

Police closed the section of Southwest 142nd Street that runs in front of the station in both directions until about 6 a.m., as they searched for evidence.

Police set up a perimeter outside the substation, and helicopters were also dispatched, but no suspect has been caught.

If you have any information on this shooting, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
