Study: Fla. education funding affecting high wage jobs
MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- South Florida teachers believe they have made a connection between the state's education spending and salaries.
The Miami-Dade County Teacher's Union released a study which concluded that Florida is falling behind in high-wage jobs because the state doesn't spend enough on schools.
The president of the United Teachers of Dade called on state leaders to reconsider the state's economic and education policies. "Our economy should not be a disaster and we must begin to build an economy that's based on appropriate investments in education so that the kind of outcomes we want for the state are possible," said Karen Aronowitz.
According to economists, the Sunshine State ranks 46th among the 50 states in combined state and local spending for public schools.
