Police probe killing of gay teen as possible hate crime
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- Fort Lauderdale police are investigating whether a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed this week because he was gay.
Simmie Williams Junior was killed early yesterday morning.
Police say Williams was dressed in women's clothing at the time of the shooting and may have been the victim of a hate crime.
The area where Williams was found is a popular hangout for transgendered prostitutes and police are looking into the possibility that the teen may have been working as a prostitute.
Williams' mother says the boy wanted to go to culinary school.
