Mother of boy held in infant's killing expresses frustration
LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) -- The mother of a 12-year-old boy accused of killing his toddler cousin in Lauderhill last month is expressing concern about the speed the case is progressing.
The case involving Guerla Joseph's son is moving rather quickly by criminal justice system standards. A plea offer has been made and both sides are waiting to see if he is competent to accept it.
But Joseph expressed frustration her son has been locked up in juvenile detention for five weeks while prosecutors and defense attorneys try to resolve the allegations.
The boy is accused of fatally beating his 17-month-old cousin with a baseball bat.
The boy reportedly told police that he hit the toddler because she was bothering him while he watched cartoons.
