MIAMI (WSVN) -- A robbery suspect is recovering in the hospital after he was shot by an 85-year-old man.
According to Miami Police, Florentino Jauregui shot 28-year-old Norberto Fernandez as he attempted to steal a car parked in front of Jauregui's home on the 1300th block of Southwest 14th Street. "I'm proud of my father. He is a good person," said Pedro Jauregui.
According to investigators, the elder Jauregui heard a struggle outside of his home. When he stepped out he saw his son being confronted by Fernandez. Jauregui pulled out his handgun and shot the alleged thief.
Police said Fernandez may have been on a crime spree. They believe he is also responsible for a purse snatching 90 minutes prior to the shooting at Southwest Fourth Avenue and 10th Street.
Fernandez now faces charges of strong arm robbery, simple battery and aggravated assault.
