Man’s body found after he fell overboard Sunday
MIAMI (WSVN) -- The search is over for a missing boater at sea. Osmany Castellanos, 23, a native of Miami, was found Monday about one nautical mile northwest of Sand Key.
His body was located by the crew of a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue marine unit who declared him deceased on the scene. "Tragically, this is not the conclusion to the search that we had all hoped for," said Michael Walker, a civilian search and rescue coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Miami. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends who are coping with their loss, and we can only hope that others may learn from this tragedy and remember to always wear their life jacket."
The search began Sunday after a group of 12 boaters were on their way home from a day out at sea when Castellanos fell overboard. The Coast Guard search and rescue coordinators in Miami received a distress call yesterday from a man aboard the 27-foot vessel who said Castellanos had fallen overboard and was missing. Coast Guard Station Miami Beach and a helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami, along with two Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopters and one marine unit searched for Castellanos.
The Miami-Dade Police, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials are investigating. According to FWC, there is no foul play suspected.
