BSO cracks down on motorists during nation’s deadliest holiday

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (WSVN) -- In the wake of this year's deadliest traffic holiday, the Broward Sheriff's Office is cracking down on aggressive drivers.
Twenty-Five BSO Officers hit the road Monday afternoon to kick off the start of Operation Mad Motorist. Sheriff Ken Jenne hopes to cut down on traffic fatalities during the Fourth of July holiday. "We're going down to the details," said Jenne. "[You] don't use your turn signals when you're supposed to? We'll ticket you. If you're speeding, we'll ticket you. We're going to be very aggressive during this period of time."
BSO deputies will be out in full force through Friday, during the 7 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. rush hour. Jenne emphasizes that there will be no warnings, only tickets, If your speeding, tail-gating, don't use your traffic signal and cut people off.
Operation Mad Motorist has been linked to last month's arrest of Abdelaziz Hamze, 24, who investigators have characterized as a man with a case of road rage. Hamze is accused of dragging 44-year-old Sandra Hall to her death after he ran over her in his minivan where she was lodged under the vehicle.
