Police say homeowner of dismantled hydroponics lab is on the run

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Police say a homeowner who set up a hydroponics lab inside his home is on the run after he learned they confiscated $150,000 worth of marijuana from his home.

Miami-Dade Narcotics units raided the home, located along the 2000 block of Northwest 27th Avenue, Wednesday.

The raid came after a month-long investigation.

Police say the homeowner attempted to conceal the operation by rerouting his electrical lines, thereby stealing power from FPL.

However, they say the presence of the hydroponics lab was very evident. "You can smell it from outside," said Ricardo Roque from the Miami Police Department. "Once you went inside the house, there was a very strong odor of marijuana."

Authorities removed more than 100 plants from the home.

Police officials say the plants were mature and would be ready for sale on the street in a week.

Authorities previously spoke with the homeowner over the phone and asked him to turn himself in, but he refused.

The U.S. Attorney's Office will decide whether or not this will be a federal case.

No arrest has been made.
