Chihuly sculpture stolen from Fairchild Tropical Garden

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) -- Coral Gables police are hoping DNA evidence will provide clues into who stole a sculpture from the Chihuly exhibit at Fairchild Tropical Garden.

Police say someone broke into the property on the night of April 11 and replaced red glass with PVC pipe painted in red.

The red glass reeds were created by artist Dale Chihuly and are worth between $8,000 to $10,000.

Police say the suspects probably received a request from someone who wanted the one-of-a-kind reeds.

Similar reeds were stolen from Fairchild in December but were later recovered.

Police are hoping for a similar outcome.

If you have any information about the suspect (s), call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
