NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A group of carefree canines are just days away from becoming homeless hounds, as the owner of a dog shelter was told to shut down their safe haven.

More than 35 abused and abandoned dogs call this land their sanctuary. Dog-lover Maggie Hernandez has been leasing the property where the shelter was buil, but now she says officials are tearing it down because of permit issues.

The woman says she has spent thousands of dollars and put in plenty of hours to help these dogs that have been through so much. "Most of these animals were either injured or they were dumped, and I fixed them back to health," said Hernandez. "They dump them like nothing here."

Officials say the dogs must be gone by Friday, so crews can continue bulldozing the land.

Hernandez is hoping to find good homes for her of dogs in need. Anyone interested in adopting should give her a call at 786-306-1914.
