Victim sexually assaulted by teacher speaks out
DANIA BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A young girl is speaking out just days after her teacher is arrested for sexually assaulting her.
Conraad Hoever, 43, was arrested on Friday, charged with two counts of sexual battery for attacking 15-year-old "Shay," who does not want her full identity revealed.
The former freshman at Blanch Ely High School says she never saw the attack coming when she returned to Hoever's room after class Friday morning. She says she only went back to look for her cell phone. "He came behind me and said 'I will give you that B for the class,'" she said. "I was like, 'Hoever, get off of me, get off of me,' so Hoever stopped."
Shay then says her geometry teacher pushed her against a wall and began to fondle her, "and that's when he pushed me against the wall and pinned me up and was telling me, 'I'll take care of you, just give it to me,' and I was tussling with him, and he grabbed his hand trying to make me kiss him."
The 220-pound man then tried to force himself on the teen. "My right hand was on the wall, and he had his leg and smiling, pushing me -- started pushing, started forcing on me, so I really couldn't get away from him."
Eventually, Shay managed to push Hoever off of her and went to tell another teacher what had happened. The young victim was then taken to a sexual treatment center, and Hoever was arrested.
The victim's father also reacting to his daughter's assault, saying she shouldn't have to feel threatened at school. "There are two places you should know your kids are safe, and that's church and school. If they're not safe in church or school then that's sad," he said.
Shay and other kids say Hoever was known as a strict, no-nonsense teacher.
Officials say Hoever submitted his letter of resignation just hours before the attack. Students also said the teacher kept a list of female students he planned to invite to his going-away party.
