Cuban refugees make it to land in Elliot Key

BISCAYNE NATIONAL PARK, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials are investigating to see if a group of 18 Cuban refugees were smuggled into the area, or if they floated here on their own.
According to Biscayne National Park officials, the Cuban refugees made it to Elliot Key on a small boat sometime Tuesday morning. Officials report that the group consists of men, women and children whose ages and breakdown have yet to be released.
The group landed on the campground on Elliot Key, which is not attached to the mainland, and authorities transported them to Biscayne National Park headquarters where U.S. Border Patrol will take over.
Elliott Key is an island in Biscayne National Park -- between Key Biscayne and Key Largo.
