Kids stung by bees, four transported to hospital
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (WSVN) -- A group of children had to be hospitalized with multiple bees stings after they uncovered a hive in a cypress preserve.
According to Coconut Creek Police and Fire, the five kids were playing 20 feet deep into the preserve of an area of an apartment complex that is normally unoccupied. One of the children fell on the ground and that is when the bees began to attack. The kids say they jumped into a nearby swimming pool to try and get the bees off of them.
Four of the children, ranging in age from 8 to 12 years old, were transported to Northwest Medical Center in Margate. Some of the victims did not require medical attention, however one of the children is allergic to bee stings. Bees also injured the grandfather of two of the children when he tried to help them out.
Police say two of the children, a brother and sister, who were transported to the hospital lived in the apartment complex near where they were stung. Two others, inclusing a cousin, were visiting from Weston. Finally, another cousin, who was also stung was visiting from Colombia.
