MIAMI (WSVN) -- A 5-year-old is telling his story following a horrific hit-and-run accident that put him and and his brother in the hospital.
Anthony Perez was released from the hospital on Tuesday, a day after the accident. But his younger brother, Adam, 3, remains in critical condition, and it could be years before he fully recovers.
Anthony's father says, upon his young son's release, all Anthony could ask about was the status on his little brother. "He loves his brother [he was] home all day just saying, 'When is Adam coming home? I miss my brother,'" said Antonio Perez. "I keep telling him, 'When he gets better. The doctors will fix him. That a bad guy hurt him real bad.'"
Anthony suffered the horror, along with his parents, of watching his little brother dragged for blocks after a driver ran over the two boys and kept going. "I didn't see the car, but I saw the car running with my brother," said Anthony. "The car threw me in the grass. [Adam was] under the car."
Throughout the ordeal, Anthony's friends have been there and are praying for Adam's quick recovery. One of Anthony's friends prayed for Adam on camera: "Dear God, I hope that little Adam is OK."
On Monday night, the car's impact left Anthony bloodied and with an injured arm and pinned Adam underneath the car, dragging him for almost four blocks.
Anthony and Adam were riding on their motorized toy ATVs, which they got for Christmas, in Biscayne Park. Their mother walked beside them to make sure they would be safe, but the hit-and-run driver did not give the family a chance to get out of the way. "I saw a car coming from behind us, but he was pretty far, and I told my husband we should move to the side," explained mother Katty Perez. "At the time I was saying that, I heard the guy accelerating, so I turned around to tell him to slow down, but he was already on top of us."
The Perez family is trying their best to be optimistic about everything. "I know that God is listening to them, and I know that God is protecting my son, and I know that [Adam]'s going to recover because of that," said Katty.
The family is begging for whoever was responsible to turn themselves in. Authorities say they will not give up until they find the driver. They describe the car as a large sedan, possibly a Crown Victoria, with either a beige, brown or gray color. If you have any information please call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
