Wheelchair-bound woman has close call with Metromover
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A woman in a wheelchair had a close call while getting on the Metromover with her medical assistance dog.
The woman went tumbling down into the tracks at 1098 NE 2nd Avenue when her dog's leash got caught in the door, and the train started moving. The wheelchair-bound woman flipped onto the tracks when her dog stepped into the Metromover, the doors closed, and the train took off with the caught leash.
She fell in the tracks about five feet down, narrowly missing the energy-charged tracks, which would have resulted in electrocution. About a dozen people on board witnessed the ordeal, including the woman's son who could do nothing to help his mother.
"She's fine as of right now," said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's Captain on scene. "The only injuries we found on her were some lower back pain. Luckily, she didn't hit the third rail which could have been fatal for her."
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where she is doing OK, and her only complaint is back pain.
