Homeowners may face tax hike
MIAMI (WSVN) -- Miami-Dade County homeowners could soon be facing a taxing situation.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Jimenez unveiled his proposed budget for the coming year, and for the first time since he took office, he said a property tax increase may be required. "The first budget I proposed was based on property tax rates that sustained us for two years and, just like the first budget, my fiscal year 2013/2014 proposed budget that will sustain us through fiscal year 2014/2015," said Jimenez.
If approved, the four percent hike would prevent cuts to emergency services, like the county's Fire Rescue Department. It would also fund the no kill animal shelters that voters approved last November.
