Miami Beach Events at Public Venues
Free Fireworks on the beach between Eighth & Ninth streets at Midnight.

Traffic & Parking Restrictions
Ocean Drive will be open to pedestrians only from Fifth to 14th streets on Wednesday, Dec. 31, starting at 7 a.m. and continuing through Friday, Jan. 2 at 7 a.m. in anticipation of large crowds during the holiday weekend. The 100 Block from Sixth to 14th streets will be closed from Ocean Court (alley) to Ocean Drive.

Free Transportation: The South Beach Local
Miami-Dade Transit's South Beach Local will will provide free rides on its normal route starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31 continuously until 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.

Parking
All city-owned parking lots and garages will have normal operations (open: 24/7). Residential parking zones citywide will be enforced. Valet operations normally on Ocean Drive will be relocated to Collins Avenue.

Extended Hours
Some nightclubs will have extended hours on New Year's Eve until 7 a.m., Jan. 1, 2009.

Offices Closed
City of Miami Beach administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 31, after 1 p.m. and all day Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009

DOWNTOWN MIAMI:

The Countdown is on to the "Big Orange" New Year's Eve Celebration at Bayfront Park

(Miami, FL) Miami's iconic "Big Orange" is set to rise over the city to welcome in 2009. Miami's first "Green" Commissioner, Marc D. Sarnoff is helping to lead this year's event with an environmentally friendly theme.

"Green the American Dream, is a theme that is very close to my heart and I'm very proud that Miami will welcome in the New Year with a focus on making our city one of the most socially responsible in the world," says Commissioner Sarnoff.

More than 150,000 people are expected at this year's event with a world-wide television audience into the millions.

A spectacular laser and fireworks show highlight the grand finale as the "Big Orange" reaches the summit of the hotel.

The celebration will not call for any street closures, but traffic will be rerouted from Biscayne Boulevard and Third Street north to go west on Southeast Second Street. From Southeast First Street, all northbound traffic will temporarily be rerouted south until Northeast Fourth Street. Northbound traffic will be open on the Boulevard after Northeast Fourth Street.

FORT LAUDERDALE:

They're expecting more than 100,000 people to hit the downtown Himmarshee district for a party that this year is expanded in both time and space. It begins at 4 p.m. with family-friendly events in nearby Esplanade Park and runs until 3 a.m. as the last song is sung in the street outside Tarpon Bend.
